About Glendale School

Glendale School offers an outstanding learning environment for students in kindergarten to Grade six. Our school is located in the southwest community of Glendale, serving the communities of Glendale and Glenmeadows.

What We Believe

We believe that all children come to school with potential, curiosity, and interest in engaging in social interaction, establishing relationships, constructing their learning and negotiating with everything the environment brings to them.  Teachers must be deeply aware of each child’s potential and construct all their work and the environment of the children’s experience to respond appropriately.  At the centre of our work together is the principle that each child is naturally curious, wondrous about learning, filled with potential, possesses many talents, skills and abilities and sees joy in all things possible.

Together with Alberta Education and the CBE, the staff of Glendale School believe that education must be personalized for each child; not considered in isolation but rather, together with the family, other children, the teachers, the environment of the school, the community and the wider society. The school is a “system” in which all these relationships, which are all interconnected and reciprocal, are activated and supported through intentional instructional design. Children have a right to high-quality education that supports the development of their true potentials and it is our collective responsibility to foster this for our children through a shared vision for learning. The work of Alberta Education’s “Inspiring Education,” the CBE’s Three Year Education plan and the Glendale School Development plan each guide and strongly align to these beliefs.

Our vision is supported by an atmosphere of mutual respect, trust, and open communication between school, students, parents and community. This is achieved when we all agree to share the joy and responsibility for each and every individual.

School Motto

Our school motto is "Roots and Wings" (radices et pennae). The entire school population contributed to the logo design, developed by Aerographics Creative Services of Ottawa, Ontario to mark the school's 50th anniversary. The logo reflects a tree; tree of knowledge, learning tree, and as one student put it "is the pretty tree in front of our school". The roots go deep and artistic, all reflect the energized math/sciences as well as those of the smooth flowing liberal arts. The child in the tree is grounded on a branch near the fruit of learning and with out stretched arms is reaching out towards the stars.

School Development Plan

Each year, our school prepares a development plan with input from teachers, school staff, students and parents. We review many sources of data, including report cards, provincial achievement test results and school surveys. Based on this information, we create our plan identifying targeted areas for growth. Our school development plan is not meant to represent all of the work that takes place in our school, but rather it focuses on specific areas for improvement.

School Improvement Results Report

Our school also prepares a results plan, which looks at our previous school year. It shows our students’ achievement and progress in meeting the goals and outcomes as set out by the CBE and Alberta Education, outlines some of the highlights of our school development plan and gives an overview of our school. You can look on the CBE website for system-wide results.
