Dear Glendale Families,

Happy end of February! We welcome the warmer weather and sunshine. With that, please note that mornings remain cooler, and we have found that the pathways around the school and the compound can be icy. We encourage everyone to use caution when walking to and from the school. Additionally, as the weather warms, students will continue to go outside, and melting snow means things can get wet. Please ensure your child has a change of clothes in case they get wet while playing outdoors and encourage dressing in layers to stay comfortable throughout the day.

Black History Month

February is Black History Month, a time to recognize and celebrate the lasting legacy, leadership, and contributions of Black Canadians. This year's theme, Black Legacy and Leadership: Celebrating Canadian History and Uplifting Future Generations, highlights the diverse histories and ongoing impact of Black communities across the country. For over 400 years, Black Canadians have shaped the social, cultural, and political landscape of this nation, and their stories deserve to be acknowledged and centered—not only in February but throughout the year. Throughout the month, classes have engaged in thoughtful learning through stories, music, and films to deepen their understanding and appreciation of Black history.

Pink Shirt Day

On Wednesday, February 26, we will acknowledge and celebrate Pink Shirt Day. This day originated when two Grade 12 students in Nova Scotia stood up for a new Grade 9 student who was being bullied for wearing a pink shirt. Their act of kindness has grown into a global movement against bullying. On this day, we encourage all students to wear a pink shirt to promote kindness and a sense of belonging. Inclusion and compassion are values we uphold every day, and Pink Shirt Day is a special opportunity to celebrate these principles together.

Non-Instructional Day

A reminder that there is NO SCHOOL for students on Friday, February 28 due to a scheduled non-instructional day.

Thank you, as always, for supporting our school community. We look forward to closing February in a positive and thoughtful way.
