Dear Glendale School Families,
Happy New Year, and welcome back! I hope you had a wonderful holiday season filled with rest and time with loved ones. It was so wonderful to see everyone upon our return from the break. As we step into 2025, it has been exciting welcoming your children back to our amazing small but mighty school community.
We’ve had an amazing first week back! Students and teachers have been busy setting meaningful goals and intentions for the remainder of the school year, creating an atmosphere of enthusiasm and focus. One of the highlights has been our discussions about Kakyosin—a Blackfoot teaching about awareness and mindfulness. Students reflected on how we can embody this teaching during the winter season, both in our learning and interactions with one another.
We’re also thrilled to share that on Monday, January 15, Hal Eagletail, a knowledge keeper from the Northern Dene TsuuT’ina Nation, will spend the day with our students. Hal will share the rich traditions of oral storytelling and cultural teachings, setting the stage for ongoing Land-Based Learning opportunities with him throughout the school year. This promises to be a profound and inspiring experience for our students.

Morning Drop-Off Safety
As we embrace winter, we want to ensure the safety of all students during morning drop-off. Please help us by following these important safety guidelines:
- Use Crosswalks: Please ensure you and your children cross at designated crosswalks. Avoid jaywalking, as it creates safety risks, especially during icy and low-visibility conditions.
- Drive Slowly: Drive cautiously in the school zone, keeping an eye out for students and families.
- Avoid Stopping in the Middle of the Road: Do not stop your vehicle in the middle of the street to let your child out, as this can cause traffic issues and unsafe conditions for students.
- Park Only in Designated Areas: Use designated parking or drop-off zones to ensure traffic flows smoothly. Avoid double parking or blocking driveways.
- Stay Alert: Be mindful of pedestrians and other vehicles. Avoid distractions such as mobile phones while driving or walking near the school.
- Be Patient: Winter conditions often mean extra time is needed for drop-off. Allow yourself extra time in the morning to ensure a safe and stress-free start to the day.
By working together, we can ensure a safe and welcoming environment for everyone in our school community.
The new year is a time for fresh beginnings, and we are committed to helping each student achieve their goals and continue to grow. Thank you for your ongoing support and partnership in making Glendale School a place where every child can thrive both academically and personally.
Here’s to a successful and inspiring 2025!
